Department of Financial Institutions was created in 1996 from the
consolidation of six separate entities. It was Governor Thompson's
vision to create a single streamlined department to regulate the financial
services industry. The Department of Financial Institutions is the
State Agency that regulates the Wisconsin mortgage industry.
